Default Cobra Pinging

Hi, I don't know if I am doing this but hopefully someone can guide me on a problem with my 2001 cobra convertible.

On hard excelleration at approximately 4500 plus RPM's the car pings and sounds like it's bad gas or a timing problem. The dealership changed the plugs, but the car only has 11,000 miles on it. I talked to a guy from a place here in California that specializes in super charging cobras and he told me that because of emotions Ford cannot do timing on the car like an after market mechanic can. Has anyone else had the pinging problem out there and what do you suggest I do to get rid of it.

Thanks

Use a higher octane gas and see what happens. If you're using the lower grades it's normal.

Thanks, the highest octane in California is 91, we don't have 93. I am guessing there is a timing issue with it and that the dealer will only go by what the factory setting calls for.

What is your A/F ratio? What mods do you have? Pinging is usually a sign of detonation which is bad especially if you have a supercharger. Usually, the factory makes up for that by retarding the timing. There's always going to be someone who uses 87 octane then floors it up a hill in 4th gear.

I have a 01 Cobra (stock) except for flowmasters.. and mine does that upon hard excelleration. I believe it's a normal thing. I run 93 octane. It's almost like a loud clatter. It's all those horses kicking up thier heels.
