Default Upgrading a 97 cobra

I have a 1997 Cobra. I want to do more to the car. Just simple bolt on's. I'm waiting for the car to blow up before I do any internal engine work. Does anybody have suggestions about what I should do to the car to make it faster than what it is?? Or should I just pull the engine now and build it up?

....your waiting for your engine to blow?

I dont know how familliar with Cobras you are my friend, but last time I checked its 3-5k to rebuild a blown engine. I had to rebuild my 97 bottom to top.

Hell, if you got the money then go for it, but thats really kind of foolish, it aint no 350 block.

well if I don't wait till it blows up, what type of motor work should I do? I'm just looking for suggestions. When it comes to internals of an engine I do know to much about it so any tips will help.

You will not get good power with cheap minor bolt on's.
Start with the heads have a good engine tuner port and polish them, with a nice cam and oversized valves with stiffer springs,
while you got the heads off you may as well do the bottum end now. It will be farily cheep to do if you, DONT BLOW IT FIRST.
The 4.6 is not a cheap block to replace. If you think she's going to blow take it apart now,it will save you a grip. while you got it apart slide some long tube headers in with a X pipe. Fab urself up an intake and go racing. If thats not enouph power. Get yourself A Blower, and dont forget the Tune. Just remember engines make power not minor bolt ons!!!

**** all that ****, son! grab urself some gears, a nice exhaust system, then invest in a real nice rotating assembly with some dished pistons and blow the **** out of it. of course youll need supporting mods such as a new fuel system and a tune.

after that, you can come on and ask us what kind of tranny you should get when it blows

go with 4.30s in the rear, the power band on the sn 4v cobras is high in the rpm band

I have a 03 GT and I run 4.30's and its my DD. Its been my DD for about 3 months and it still gets a sensible 15 city mpg. 4.30's + a set of DR's = happiness. With the Cobra's higher powerband and redline, 4.30's are definitely doable for a DD.
