Default 97 Cobra engine swap.

I am looking into putting a 1997 Cobra engine into a 1999 Mustang GT body. I was wondering if it would just bolt right in without any modification? Also do they have an IRS? If so, I will be putting my 97' cobra rear into it, and if I put a solid rear, how would I know what springs to buy to install? Any tips or information you have on doing this would help me a lot. I have been jumping around and playing with all kind of idea of what I could do with this engine. I have it just sitting in my totaled cobra but the engine was never touched. I am trying to get all my ideas together and weigh all my options of what I could do so that I make the best decision possible. ALSO DO THE 1999-2001 COBRA'S HAVE P.I. HEADS ON THEM?? I have heard so many different answers on this question so if you know please let me know.. Thanks!!!!!!!!!

Default RE: 97 Cobra engine swap.

I know people come on here looking for help but Geesh! Have you done any research at all????

But to answer your question... Yes they bolt right in. Use your existing wiring harness and ECU. Make sure you get a REAL tune and not a Handheld POS. Worse thing you'll have to do is lengthin some wires in the harness. The PI head "thing" is reserved for 2v "GT" engines only. 99 Cobras did have IRS but unless your going for an exact clone of a cobra stick with your 99GT rear end. A lot of Cobra owner swap to solid axles for the better track handling. Also IRS didn't make it's way to the Cobra till 99. If your 99GT just doesn't work and you need a replacement a 94-98 rear will NOT work in a 99-04 because the axles are about 2 inches shorter. As for springs, any and all spring from Fox body all the way up to 04 GT's will work in your rear end (99). as long as they are for the GT and not the cobra...
