Default Pulley Question

I have a 03 cobra with the 2.80 upper and ported blower I was wanting to put a 2lb lower on do you think I would be safe on fuel and air (MAF) with a good tune? I get my tuning done from RWTD.

well... I would datalog it... my MAF was pegged, so I had to get a sct2400 and also needed a BAP- and I have a stock lower.. honestly, the money your putting into the lower pulley... your not going to see much poewr, you will just have a bit better torque curve... but you also run the risk of overspinning the ported eaton... if you want to put a lower on the car, I would step back to the 2.93 and run a 4# lower... that's according to stegg the best combo for his ported blowers... but for the money involved, it's really not going to be worth it...

Lower pulley is definately worth it. I made 90rwtq from a 6lb.

dont get the lower. When i dynoed my car it was only worth 4 hp and 12ft torque just to overspin your supercharger and have a new one ported and put on way not worth it. Just get a shot of NO2 first...

Actually I stand corrected, I was going to go on a tangent, but steig changed his page i believe.. he use to recommend a 2.93 upper with a 4# lower... now it says 2.81 + 2# lower... but the 2# lower won't make much of a difference even still... it will help your torque curve, not so much your final numbers... if you think it's worth the money - then by all means.. I still don't think it's worth the money.

If you went with a 6# lower then it's different, but if you put a 6# lower on your 2.81 upper you will break something... it will heat up way to fast, and 20psi is way to much for the eaton, ported or not.

Boost numbers with various upper and lower combos are going to vary widely. Every setup is different. Charts like the one I have on my website and the one on the Stiegemeier website are only estimates. Actual boost will depend on your actual mods. As an example, with only a 2.80 upper (stock lower) I made 16 lbs. of boost with a Stiegemeier Stage 2 port (504rwhp and 496rwhtq). That was much higher than the norm, which is not good. Lower boost and higher power is always better. The sweet spot with a ported blower is 16 lbs.and anything over that is not recommended due to blower inefficiencies/heat. At that point you should move to atwin-screw.

The most common combo right now witha ported blower is the 2.80/2.76 upper witha 4 lb. lower. The 2.93 with the 4 lb. lower is a close second. If it were me, I'd go with the 2.93/2.90 with the 4 lb. Less chance for belt slip would be one benefit, at the cost of roughly 1 lb. of boost. Bear in mind that the most popular configuration isn't always the most efficient. Mod setups can be very fickle. LOL!

Bob, im with you... if i were to spend that money on the lower, i'd swap to a 2.93 with the 4# lower also...

also - yes they're very fickle.. .like the damn cars, haha.

The 2.93/4 combo is what I see from most guys in the Mid-Atlantic Cobra Association or a 2.76 by itself. Once you get past 16psi like Bob said, go to a twin screw!
