Default Ford 9" in '04 Cobra?

How about it? Does anyone know of a place that sells this stuff? I want to keep the stock track width, disk brakes and put 4.10s in it. I want to do wheelstanding holeshots all day long with no wheelhop and no broken axles!!!

well in the new MM&FF they have an 03 cobra going 9's on a built 8.8, so i would go with one of those due to the fact they are a direct swap and easier to find

With IRS gears will do something but not as much as a live axle will. Those springs in your IRS are not meant for launching the car hard, any drag racer will tell you that. I think its a good idea to put the gears in dont get me wron (if it makes you go faster, buy it) and you are going towards one of the biggest gears made but dont be surprised if its not what you expected. but like i said you will go faster regaurdless, specially with a 12 second car stock.

Maybe you didn't understand...a Ford 9" IS a live axle; one of the world's strongest, in fact. Where have u been? The IRS springs are meant for handling, Iknow, but they aren't the weak point-the halfshafts are. There are companies that make Ford 9's as direct fits into any Stang. I just don't happen to remember their names. The 8.8, built or not, doesn't have the strength for me to be confident in investing in one to put in my heavy-*** Cobra, especially when I plan on running 9's or 8's with around 700-800rwhp. Thanks anyway.

AH ok i get it now. My dad put a 9 inch in his 78 stang that probally runs 11's with all the work he had done to it, never know though stopped talking to him before he finsished. So your tryin to remove IRS and put a live axle in....thats mad F*cking cool, and hopefully you set a trend beacuse i HATE IRS.

Drive shaft shop makes level 5 axles that bolt directly into the 03, 04 Cobra rear and withstand 900 rwhp keeping the IRS as is, reccomend some control arms and bracing only problem is they cost $1599.00

I looked at them-very nice. But what about the 'holeshot hops?' What can be done about that at these power levels? As for the price, I suppose I will pay that much either way I go. I am hoping to also lose some weight back there with this project. I may see if these people can make a good set of axles for my V8 Fiero...
