Default Insurance...Could be a problem...?

Hey guys, I didn't really want to take up space on the forum for this but unfortunitly I've been biten and need to know if I'll live or die!
Recently started my career in the engineering department and can afford to upgrade the 98 GT to something with a bit of kick in it. I'm looking at something along the lines of $20k price range which puts me in a good position for a low mileage 99 or 01 Cobra. The only thing I'm not sure about is how much the insurance will be. Did any of you that switched from a GT to a Cobra see a large price change (we're talking like $50+) on their insurance? I'd imagine the price on insurance would be about the same on an 03/04 Mach 1 as well then if not more with it being a newer car (though I'd heard of people actually going down in price on insurance for a newer car since it had better safety equipment, though it wasn't a sports car).

Any help would be greatly appreciated as well as I hope I didn't make anyone mad by this post taking up space.
Seth

Depends on your driving record and where you live. Rates vary from state to state and county to county. You cannot get an accurate estimate online. Call your local insurance company and get quotes.

I switched from a 97 GT to an '01 Cobra and my insurance went down! Mostly because i switched insurance companies. i went from Amica ($140/mo - just liability) to progressive ($106/mo full coverage). but it all depends on your driving record. amica wanted $3600/yr for the cobra.

Where are you located? i'm trying to sell my '01 cobra convertible if your interested.

My insurance is about the same on my 97 GT and my 03 Cobra. It's about $150 a month for both. Ask your insurance company to give you a quote before you assume it will be a lot higher. You may be pleasently surprised.

Oh, and $20k is far too much for a 99/01 unless you wanted to put a good chunk down on it. If you have $20k you might as well save another 1-2k and look for a Termi.

at 17yo I would bet it will jump a bunch, even w/o anything on your record.

you really have to call and get a quote though.

i own a `99 cobra and I'm paying $237/mo. for full coverage and i'm 22. which isnt bad because ive had prior speeding tickets(100+mph in a 40mph work zone)and driving with a suspended license and also living in NY which have high rates as is. I took a driving course that erased my points off my license and gave me a 10% discount on my insurance as well.

I had progressive and switched to geico....and let me tell you...."I DID SAVE A BUNCH OF MONEY BY SWITCHING TO GEICO". Progressive wanted $600/mo.

First, going from a 99 convertible to a 99 cobra coupe my insurance went down about $17 a month. Also like it was mentioned before do not pay $20,000 for a 99 or 01 cobra. You could get a nice 99 for close to half that and mod the hell out of it or buy a dd with the other half.

You guys never fail to make me feel lucky for my insurance. I was sure my Cobra was going to make it go up a decent chunk. I couldn't believe it only doubled (considering I have both cars on it now) to around $150 and I'm only 23. Well, I was 22 for that rate. Wait... so rates go down each year? I wonder how I can take advantage of that since my birthday was this month.
