Default Warm Start Problem

My '96 Cobra has a warm start problem. Car runs great and starts fine when cold. When warm, I have to turn key on, then off, then start the engine. If I don't , it will start up rich with check engine light on, lope a few times and die. If I do the on / off thing it starts just fine. Had it at the Ford dealer once but they said it wouldn't do it. Don't know where else to turn. Any help GREATLY appreciated!

sounds like you have a fuel pressure problem. Could be your fuel pressure regulator on your fuel rail. Or your fuel pump is going bad

Default RE: Warm Start Problem

It appears that I found the problem! Twice lately the car would not stay running when warm and I had to disconnect the battery and "re-boot" the PCM. I decided that I should take a look at the PCM and possibly remove it and send it in for re-programming. I also thought there was an outside chance that the previous owner had installed a chip in a half-a**ed manner. Upon removal, I found a very loose fitting Jet power chip held in place by black electrical tape. As I question the benefit of a chip without a good tune, I removed it and replaced the PCM. All problems gone, starts and runs warm or cold like it should. Thanks for the help anyway!

There's nothing else to hold them in place other than the wedge of the connectors! Black tape worrks good for that, but the problem is that there's simply not enough room up there to fit it and bolt the ecu in properly. The jet chip runs the car very lean and I do not reccomend them at all! The best thing you could have done was remove it. I tried my car with it in and out just for giggles and I could feel a little boost down low, but nothing worth running lean over and frying a valve!

Thanks for keeping us posted and letting us know how you made out! Most just take the info and never come back. I like to know what solutions are so when I have a problem I can easily solve it! Good job Newbie!
