IMRC cleaning tool list
I've heard horrible things about the deletes... such as big low end torque losses etc. I'm really not looking to spend any money anyway, as I'm going to be swapping to '01 Cobra intake and tumble port heads in the early spring. Still need a list of tools though, anyone?
Air tools or a battery3/8s impact are a must.. Hand tools if you really have to. I just got done swapping my motor twice in my car so its all fresh in my head. First you have to take the belt off, so a 1/2 breaker bar willwork on the tensioner..oh and you have to take the sheild offthe tensioner (13mm nuts). Unbolt/Unplug the alternator and remove that(all 10mm)you'll need to pull the intake tube...an 8mm will do that. Leave the throttle body on, disconnect the cables. (2) 8mm bolts hold that down. You'll need a fuel line disconect tool, big one and little one. Next take the EGR bracketoff (2) 10mm bolts, and then the EGR itself(2)10mm bolts.Yank all the vacuum and PCV lines off as well.Next take the tophalf of theintake off..theres like 6 or 7 8mm bolts. Next you'll need a 13mm to take the main intake bolts off, plus a 15mm deepfor the front 2 bolts on the cross-over tube. Theres a couple 10mm bolts in the back of the intake holding it down. You should be able to lift the intake up with the IMRC plates still bolted down by the little 8mm bolts....once its out, then serperate and clean it.
I went to town on mine with some 2+2 gum cutter. So grab a bunch of that. And old toothbrush works really well if its gunked up bad. Im sure I might be forgetting one small step but you should be set with 8mm shallow and deep, 10mm shallow and deep, 13mm shallow and deep, 15mm deep, 1/2 breaker bar, maybe a flat screw driver for connectors..And dont forget the IMRC connector underneath the intake before you try to yank it out.
