Default New Cobra Advice

Just bought a 97 Cobra, want advice on some early bolt ons to really boost the sound and add a lil HP too without a lot of money. And how good are the factory exhaust h-pipe and headers?

Im not totally sure about the h-pipe on the 97's, but I know on the 99+ cobras the h-pipes and cats are really pretty good. But either way, your exhaust manifolds suk and aftermarket is ALWAYS better than stock, especially if you eliminate the cats. The headers arent cheap though, especially the labor... that will cost more than the headers do lol. If your on a budget, get a cat-back exhaust, something like slp (I heard)or magnaflow / packs (I know) will give good performance and sound.

What exactly is your definition of alot of money, you bought a 97 cobra so spending 2k in mods should not be too much. first thing to do is all the free mods that are listed here and in several other mustang forums. I f i was to buy a 97 Cobra the first thing i would do would be to switch over to synthetics in the motor tranny and rear end this alone will give you an average of 5 to 7 RWHP and increase the life wear and tear of the car cost about 100.00 then i would do a good ram air kit to free up the intake side cost about 250.00 and then i would do the whole exhaust headers, X-pipe complete exhaust and mufflers, this will set you back about 1500.00. go with the good quality name brands and also take in to consideration the weight of the system compared to stock and please do not go to some muffler shop and have them make and install a system for you that would be a big mistake go with a system that is already premade and sold by a big name brand company the bends will be all mandrel and the system you can save on labor by installing yourself. Then i would go with a good computer chip which is around 300.00. all these mods will get you right around 330RWHP and put your car around 12.90s to 13.10 in the quarter.

synthetic fluids. [it is] more fluid than viscous so the driveline loss is decreased. <edited><editID>Jugador</editID><editDate>37961.1432175926</editDate></edited>

wasn't my suggestion...but thanks...</P>

once you break it in with cheapieoil after a few hundred miles synthetic is the only way to go. (on a new car that is...i was just saying the only time not to use it is for a few hundred miles after it's new.)</P><edited><editID>Jugador</editID><editDate>37965.0474884259</editDate></edited>
