New Engine?
Long story short, my 98 Cobra Conv. engine is shot. The only way to reuse it is by boring out everything and doing a complete overhaul. At this point, would it be better to try and find a new 4v crate motor, find a totaled (rear end or side impact) car from a junkyard, or have the engine completly rebuilt? I have friends that can help with installing a new engine, but nobody that can machine the old one.
If someone believes that a crate motor is the way to go, where should I look for a good 4v setup?
I need some good feedback from some mustang fans for this one. The greater the detail the better.
Thanks in advance.

I dont know for sure, but I'm gonna say your best bet is building the **** out of your block. The teksid block is great, the crank is alrady forged, so pistons, rods, and rings, and a good build is all you need (not literally, but you know what I'm saying). If mine ever goes, thats the plan. Even if you stay NA, a properly bored and built engine will make a good amount of power. Plus it will have zero miles, as opposed to the crap-shoot you would get trying to salvage one.
Alright, well, I think that I have the solution. I'm going to stick with the stock block for now. Also, I am stroking it and boring the block .030 over, rebuilding the heads, porting them, and possibly adding long tube headers with an x-pipe.
Now, I am looking into getting the sean hyland stroker kit found here: http://www.seanhylandmotorsport.com/...products_id=50
Also, I want to know if when stroking the engine if i need to change anything else to accomidate the increase in power/ changes to the engine. I will have the computer reprogrammed of course.
Any suggestions are appreciated.

since your keeping the block (good idea), the overbore will fill out any imperfections, but you need to remember to get it cross-hatched. if you want to stroke it, clearance will need to be made by "notching" the block. other machining process ideas include blueprinting, magnafluxing, leveling the deck, winging the crank, polishing journals etc. MMR, VT, DSS racing, ModMax, Coast etc make stroker kits. sean hylands is probably one of these kits and slightly overpriced, check around first. check your compression ratio now incase you want to power-add. there are oil pans, pick-ups, windage trays and girdles, aftermarket timing sprockets, cams, valves, springs, retainers, followers, valve guides etc to look into...and best to chose what works with your plans. theres so much to choose from. keep in mind all new hardware will be required as some bolts are torque-too-yield aswell as a gasket kit.
