I have a stock 96 cobra and was thinking about changing the the rear gears. Whats best for my year and any info on them..as what this ratio does rather then this ratio will help alot thanks......
I have 4.30's and they are great for n/a cars. I am at about 3000rpms on the 80mph and when I try I can still average 20 mpg.Im not sure what you mean "as what this ratio does rather then this ratio will help alot " Changing the rear axle ratio will give you better acceleration from multiplying your torque and getting your engine into that sweet spot quicker. Hope that helps some.
^lol............There really isnt much difference, they both hit 80mph around 3000rpms. Its up to you though. The general opinion is that if you are goin with forced induction in the near future go with4.10s, 3.90s, or3.73s. If not then go 4.10s or 4.30s Good Luck!
I would if I could afford it. Am I right about 4.30 being the steepest w/ a stock carrier? Poll people w/ 4.56's and see if they like them. Everyone I've talked to that has them, loves them. I even know a guy that is FI w/ 4.56. It's pretty mean. He had to do a T56 swap because the T45 1st gear was just pointless. No gas when you let off the clutch. lol.
