excessive steering wheel play
Hi, everyone. Just purchase a sweet 96 Black Cobra that has 81,000 miles on it. There seems to be more play in the steering wheel (about 1") before the wheels turn, then my sweet 95Gt has. One cobra owner i know says it's normal. I don't believe that. Before i start replacing the rack and steering shaft does any one else have that problem or had that problem, and if so, what's the fix?
Thank you

Sounds like you may have some worn bushings in front end.Jack the car up and do some poking around the control arms and look sloppy movement. If so, I recommend going for new tubular "K" member, tubular control arms and Hiem joints at EVERY moving part. Kind of extreme for some under-steer, but I went all out on GR-40 system. The first turn I went into out of shop, was a looooooooong sweeping right-hander. I crossed-over the inside white line like 5 times during the turn cuz understeer was COMPLETELY eliminated and kept needing to correct my line.
