Lost VIN....
All I've got is the drivetrain from a 1996 Cobra mustang, that I am putting in another frame.
But, according to Utah law, I need the VIN of the car that the engine came from or I cannot register it for street use.
I looked all over the block and can't find a 17 digit VIN.
Are there numbers to the VIN stamped on the block? Or is there a way to look up the VIN using the numbers stamped there?
Ford and the local Ford dealer parts guys don't seem to know. And as usual, if you want the right answer, go to the fans. Not the source.

how would they know if the engine has even been changed? Just don't tell them! Do you have the ecu? You can get any ecu and have it reporgrammed to your vin and the 96 cobra engine to make it run. You never tell the gov't or state any more info than they need to know. It will only give you headaches. They say that because they want to know if it's a stolen engine. I'm in NYS anmd swapped a few engines around. i never said anything and they never even know!
