No negative effects, running without a cat, but it will not pass emissions like that, since it's OBD II. Just get a tuning license, and have the code removed, for insufficient catalyst, or just get MIL eliminators...

Is your car stock? One cat? Weird...

I dont think i can understand one single post in this thread. Have any of you passed english in high school?

If you have a mid-pipe that is O/R(without cats), go ahead and put it on, it will not harm anything, will free up some flow from the engine, and will make your car louder. It will throw a code so you can either get MIL eliminators(which sometimes give you problems), or you can just keep turning the code off with a tuner(Xcal2 and so on). Also if you take your car to a tuner to get it tuned, they can completely shut that code off, because if you do it from a tuning device yourself, it will keep coming back on every so often.

He is saying the code being off wont last long. Clearing the code with a tuner does just that. It clears it, you have to take it in to get it completely shut off is what he is saying. I have an o/r X on mine and love and my 89 GT had an o/r H pipe and was so damn loud and throaty. No cats in my opinion.
