Default Rear-End Leak

OK i have a '01 Cobra with the IRS. i was checking under my front bumper to see if i need to get new fog light bezels, which i do, but i started looking under the rear and noticed a small amount of fluid directly under my rear-end. then i looked and could see where fluid seems to be coming from the bolts on the rear-end. last time i drove the car, noticed nothing different. any ideas what could be causing this, maybe it just needs to be checked to see if bolts or loose or something? planning on having gears installed with an whole new bearing kit, could that fix this? thanks for any input and info.

bolts could be loose, you could check....might need a new gasket on the 8.8", but that will be changed with the new gears!

well jacked the car up checked the bolts, nothing seemed loosed, but i tried tightening it a little anyways. will see if it still leaks. but have a guy that offered to trade rear ends with me, his is from a 2004-or 2005 gt, Solid rear. told him bout the leak so we are tryin to setup sumthin at a shop. if not i'll just go and get the gears and all. but i'd rather just trade the rear-ends, his only has 54,000 miles on it with 3:90 gears.

sounds like the seal, to be honest, which is something you will replace anyways, when u do the gears... they do go out, not uncommon at all... just make sure not to run ur diff dry...

Id go with the seal, if its not the gasket... if your having the rear done then it shouldn't leak when you get it back prob fix when you get the gears...

ok well i talked to a shop today that said they could do the gears for me. and i was looking at the gears and the bearing kits, but also saw that they sell a trac-loc rebuild kit for like $115. should i go ahead and get that and get them to install that too or not worry about it?

ok, and what about the steeda irs diff brace? hear a lot of people say that should be one of the first things to do too. is that just an easy bolt-on or do you have to drill the holes to bolt it on?
