Default 03 Cobra problem with clutch?

I took my 03 for a ride yesterday and did a couple of clutch drops in 1st and 2nd. When i did it in 2nd all I got was nasty burning clutch smell and the car didnt move.

As I put it back in 1st it did fine and second was fine also. I dont know if I did any damage or not and if anyone knows please enlighten me.

I have two other mustangs in the 60s and 70s and when I run them up to 3500 or 4000 RPM and dump the cars just roll the tires like there was no tommorow. Is my 03 not made as well or what? I have never had anything like this happen before.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How many miles? Check out svtperformance for this issue, seems like there are all kinds of clutch issues with 03/04, namely the TOB. There is even a TSB on it. In fact, before the TSB came out I received a brand new transmission ($4100) courtesy of Ford because they didn't have the parts available to fix the problem. Now they change the snout on the tranny which has a better design for the TOB. I believe they'll even change out the clutch if they see wear due to the TOB. I know this doesn't solve your problem, but if your above 15K and you routinely drop the clutch like that, you probably need a new clutch. The stock one does not hold up well, especially if your pullied. Also, I hope you don't have drag radials when doing this or your gonna destroy an axle if you wheel hop.

Thank you guys, I just spoke to my Ford dealer they said there are 5 or 6 TSB's and will replace the tranny on Monday.

Does anyone know if they would install an upgraded clutch pack? If so any recommendations?[sm=feedback.gif]

That's great news. I would say no, especially while your under warranty.

Did they agree to replace the whole transmission or just the clutch and TOB?

That's entirely up to you, but I'd get the TOB problem fixed first for free and you'll probably get a new clutch out of it as well (of course it would be stock though). There is a TSB that addresses the problem with the tranny and the TOB, so if you hear a squeak until you lightly apply pressure on your clutch pedal, then I'd take it in to the dealer. Also, do a search on clutches over at svtperformance.com, there are plenty of guys running non-stock clutches and maybe there is a better alternative to spec.
