Default Can't Remove Trans

I recently purchased a '98 Mustang Cobra 4.6L w/ T45 trans. After 20 miles of driving the car the throw-out bearing went out. I've got the trans loose, but can't get it back far enough to drop, because the top of the trans hits the rear edge of the floor pan shift lever cut-out. I purchased a manual following it's procedure. If I drop the trans to facilitate removal the input shaft hangs up, because it is not level any more. What is the trick to removing this trans? This is not the first trans I've dropped so I can't understand what the problem is. I had 2 other people assisting me to no avail. Please help! I'd sure like to drive this car after just buying it. Thanks in advance for any help.
