Default 96-98 cobras

How much did the sn95 cobra put down to the wheels? I was looking for a new edge, but i found a very clean 98 cobra w/ only 60k on it. How much can one make with a s/c on low boost? I'v seen a few sn95 cobras that are cheaper than a new edge gt. Im looking to move up from my 5.0 gt and I really like the body still of the sn95 cobras.

If you found a 60K mile '98 Cobra, and they want a reasonable price, then I'd say jump on it before a 99-04 GT.

They made 305 to the crank, so somewhere in the 260-270 range to the wheels. Stock for stock I've heard a lot of people saying they are not much if any faster in a quarter mile because of their torque curve and loving to rev so high. However, nobody is going to argue the fact that once modification begins, the 4V motor in the Cobra is going to blow the **** out of our poor breathing motors found in the New Edge GT's.

I don't know much about boost with the Cobras and bolt ons etc... nor what the block is capable of handling. I would imagine they're good for more than the 400 our GT's start to push their luck on. I want to say the Teskid block is largely responsible for this?

I'm sure an SVT guru will come fix my post or add to it.

The car i found is beautiful and is awesome condition. If I boosted one I would only run low boost. Just because its the easiest way to get power and Im not looking for a drag car or anything, just a real fun street car. I think a boosted cobra would satisfy my needs easily

I went through this same dilemna when I was looking to buy a mustang. Go cobra every time. Stock for stock, the cobra is a good bit faster. It takes a lot of bolt ons to make up the 70hp difference. Also, you get the other cobra stuff such as brakes, sway bars, loaded interior, white faced guages, etc. Plus you can find some really nice cobras since they were so expensive new that a lot of middle aged guys bought them and they took really good care of them. On the other hand, the GT is cheap enough that most of them end up in the hands of punk kids that tear them up.

As far as modding goes, there is no comparison of the potential, the cobra is much better for modding. If you ever want to build it, the cobra has a forged crank and an aluminum Teksid block. The teksid block is about 80lbs lighter than the GT and the forged crank will save you $400 if you ever build.

Lastly there is the coolness factor. Cobras are just cooler. Cobra has always been the pinnacle of the mustang world. It's just a better car than the GT.

I say go cobra, but this is my opinion, do what you like.

Oh yeah, if you are, go with a 96-97, they're a little nicer. They have the clock pod which makes for a convenient place for guages, they have full leather back seats, better carpet, and a stock strut tower brace. I wish I would have realized this difference before I bought my 98. Good luck, keep us posted.

For low boost on the car you're fine, but you shouldnt go more than 425rwhp. The block and crank are good, but the rods and pistons hold it back.

I found this on youtube. A vortech cobra at only 8psi w/ 460hp. That seems very good. A gain for 155hp on only 8 psi?

my car dynoed @ 278whp very close to stock, only an O/R x-pipe and flowmaster 40 series at the time, and yes all 4vs respond very well to mods, boost in particular, the b 4vs flow nicely for some boost. , i could be wrong but it seems blown 96-98s make more power than blown 99/01s, must be the C heads on the 99/01 that aren't great for boost but better for N/A.

no need for boost why push your luck? Buy a 03 04 cobra if that is what you want. A N/A 96-98 cobra with bolts on and suspension mods is a very nice car. You dont need 450rwhp
In these cars just make them run good N / A and it will last along time . The rods and bearings will only last so long on boost why do it.

Well first of all if i had 25 grand of course I would buy a termi but since I only have 10, I probably wont happen. Secondly, Im not lookin to make it a d.d. Its not like im going to be driving all the time and hitting boost all the time. Theres a lot of these cars s/c'ed and i don't think reliablity is an issure. Im only looking to run low boost.

Just so you know, I beat the 305hp Cobra with what I have 1st-3rd.Prolly be a different story on the freeway but IDC. I love the car, feel it needs a drop and some more torque but it has good teeth, a nice smell, a class act all around. I want them seats...
