285 upfront???
Well i have a new set of rims here i got some 17 by 10.5 for the rear and 17 9 up front... im gonna get some 315 nittos for the rear
I currently have 245's and 285's in great condition and i plan on reusing one of them for the front.
I know that the 245 on 9in rim is a stretch and they suggest a 275...so would the 285 or 245 be better on the front
i have seen 245 on 9's and there not bad but never a 285 on a 9 in the front

Maybe mount on the 285s and come back with some feedback. If there is going to be any rub involved, it's going to be tire to inner fender liner. If you are dropped, there might be some actual fender rubbing. Which is bad and will slice your tires up. In which case you will have to get your fenders rolled. I don't have alot of info on this issue.
If you do get the 285s mounted up front, before you start driving, turn your steering wheel all the way left and check if any contact is being made. Then, do the same but to the right.
are they 285/40/17 or 285/35/17?

ya i am dropped well will be i got all the stuff on order just waiting for better weather to drive the car to the shop its dropping bout 1.5 in...i figured there might be some rubbing i did forget about the fender well though...i guess i could just put my 285 up front right now on the stock rim and if thats bad i know it will be even worse with the 9in rim....

on my 03 cobra i had bfg kdw 285-40-17...they did not rub at all but im not lowered,,,only thing is they had a problem getting them on a 9inch wheel...also if tire goes low the rim will ruin the inner side wall,,how i know is when they took them off we were able to inspect them and they wont put them back on..i had them on all 4`s ,,i had two of the blow the complete sidewalls off..crazy yea, im now trying the bfg sport...so far tire wear is good but traction bites..but rears have 20k on them and still look like new even with the spinning..good luck

on my cobra when i bought it, it had 285s up front on a 9 inch rim, here is a pic. its big for a reason, you can see it sticks out a little bit and it rubbed on sharped turns..i changed the front tires immediately after i got the car. btw i was lowered. but im sure you can tell
