03-04 Cobra
After selling my current modified 1995 Eclipse (ran 12.6 @111) I'm looking for something still fast, but closer to stock and just to worry about. With the money from the car plus my loan I'm looking at around $20,000 total. For this price I was looking into an 03 or 04 cobra, or an 05 gto, both are close in stock performance, with the edge to the cobra since it is more lightweight. However what about basic bolt-on performance. What can you do with the cobra's that will have the most impact. Is it just as easy as changing out the pulley for the supercharger? What are the other modifications that are common in these cars?
Thanks
Thanks
pulley, intake, exhaust, tune, and your at 450rwhp, port for 600bucks and your over 500rwhp, you can do all that for under 2g's, KB or Whipple blower, and your over 600rwhp with a car that is still very reliable and you can DD it. Cobras are badass. GTOs are fat.

I think your better off with the ls2 6.0 iron block GTO if your just going by performance, bolt ons and potential for the $$$. Its very close, only because the cobra is already forged. You have to know how fast you want to go before you make this decision and how much boost you want to push all that stuff. But if you want a much better looking car with great performance and an easy road to 650 rw high boost hp then get the cobra.
Thanks for all the replies guys. My loan requires a car of no more than 5 years old, so it would have to be an 04, which I'm having a hard time finding within 500 miles of me. I am definitely set on a cobra as my first choice, bone stock 360-375rwhp is insane, and with $500 on a pulley and a tune getting ~430rwp is even better. Thanks again I'm going to keep my eyes open for a nice 04 cobra.
Best of luck with your quest for a 2004 Cobra. I have some good info on my website that will help you when you're checking out used Terminators. Here's the link. http://stangshiftergaskets.com/2003_...m#_Toc35092317
I'll give you a very basic setup for 430-470rwhp depending on your tune and pulley size.
Intake (recommend JLT RAI or K&N for ease of installation and maintenance)
Exhaust (catback for sure; midpipe recommended)
2.90 pulley
Auxiliary idler recommended
Good and safe tune
The above should get you around 440-450rwhp depending on the tune. Assuming 93 octane.
Switch to a 2.80 or 2.76 pulley and you should be in the 450-465rwhp area depending on the tune.
I highly recommend you start with a basic setup like I suggested above, continue to learn as much as you can about the motor and carefully establish your goals and budget. These cars can fast become money magnets because (A) it's so easy and rather inexpensive to mod these motors, and (B) the mods options are HUGE. It is very easy to make costly mistakes if you don't know what you really need.
Lastly, be aware that if you choose to port your blower (to get 490-540rwhp depending on who does the porting, upper/lower pulley choices, the tune, etc.) you will need additional air and fuel mods, and if you go with a twin screw or twin turbo be prepared for even more supporting mods like larger injects, return type fuel system, etc. So if you can be very content with 430-460rwhp you can do it relatively cheaply (biggest bang for your buck) and not have to get into those air and fuel mods.
Best of luck!
