2001 Cobra

2001 Cobra
So I'm browsing craigslist like always and I come across a 2001 Cobra for 10,500 with 69k miles on it. I have a 2001 Bullitt and I was wondering what the power difference would be like. I have 3.73's and that's it for performance. i know the 1999's had a recall and they fixed the problems but I've heard that the 2001 Cobras were making less power than the advertised 320bhp. Is this true? Can you 2001 Cobra guys chime in about your cars?

I have an '01, and I love it. It's a great year for Cobra's, if you don't mind not having a supercharger . That's not a bad price either--I paid a little more and mine has 60k miles.
Performance difference is gonna be big, but with stock gears, don't expect the world out of it. It's still a fast, fun car, but as with all Mustangs, gears are going to be your best friend for fun and helping your pony get into its power range. The 4v's love to rev and will respond much better to upgrades, if you choose to do them.
The 2001's have no recalls on power, they discontinued Cobra production in 2000 to fix the '99's woes. The Interior has been upgraded as well as the radio, and the 2001 got the 31 spline rear end. Also the rear bumber says 'Cobra', which looks way better than the 99's. Oh, and polished wheelz.
The 2001's, however, have the head tick that plagued the 2001-2003 Cobras. It's not a VERY serious deal, but it is a design flaw from the factory that poorly cools the left banks rear cylinders and head, causing valves to ovht and 'tap'. They make head cooling kits IF your car does this, however, Ford put out a service bulletin and replaced these faulty heads if the previous owner so choosed to have it done. So listen in when the car gets to operating temperature, and put an ear next to the left rear bank. It's pretty noticeable, I first heard mine from the drivers seat.

I paid an even $9k for my '99 Cobra w/83k miles last May, so I'd say the asking price for the '01 you described sounds pretty fair. I've loved every minute of owning my Cobra, although I wouldn't mind having the upgraded interior of the '01. If the car checks out, I say go for it if you're looking for a change from your Bullitt.
Post up pics of both if you can.

I bought my 01 Cobra in October of 01 as a used car with 3200 miles. I drove it daily and the last two years drive it about once a week. It now has 145,000+ miles and still drives strong. I love it. Especially the yellow turn signal (LOL) since it's unique to the 99/01 Cobra.
