my new 98 cobra
I just bought a 98 cobra convertable triple black, with 45,000 miles, crome cobra R rims, Goodyear Eagle F1 275-40-17 tires (nearly new), pretty clean, and a rolebar, . It has an X-pipe and flowmasters, 4.10 gear. eibach lowering springs, and some kind of racing clutch... What are the first things i should do to make it faster, without compromising dependability or putting extreme wear on the engine? what is it worth? what do you guess the quarter mile time is? How much horsepower? I have a "superchip" worth putting on, or no? And lastly, can i hang with the same year camaro SS, or WS6?
also, how can you tell without taking it to a shop, if it has a 4.10 gear, and what can i do to make the suspension better on bumps with my eibach springs, without removing them? Any recomendations on reasonably priced waterproof outdoor car covers? Sorry about asking so many questions, I just bought it and I'm eager to make it what i want...

First of all, is your speedometer right? have someone drive in front of you at 60mph and try to match the speed, then look at your speedo.. if it is wrong, what does it read? If it's right, then put the car on some jack-stands or a lift.. on the transmission, passenger side you should see a cable that is coming out, mounted with a single bolt.. take off the bolt, and slowly pull out the entire connected bracket.. at the very end is your speedometer gear, count the teeth.. if there are 23- it has 4.10.. if there are 21- it has 3.73.. i cant remember exactly how many are on the stock gear, 16 or 17.. if your speedometer was wrong when you checked it.. if the speedo was about 6mph too fast at 60, then you've probably got 3.73s and will need the 21tooth speedo gear.. about 10-11mph too fast will need the 23tooth speedo gear.. ill check back on you
As far as the SS/WS6 thing lol.. it really depends on what kind of driver you are.. on the quarter mile, the 4.10s are going to help you out a lot.. but theyre VERY fast cars! we've only got an 1/8 mile track anywhere near my house.. but ive got a 98 cobra and i ran about a 9.6 (my first trip to the strip) and that was against a WS6 who went 9.2.. who knows if it was stock? but ive got 3.73s, long tube headers, off-road Hpipe and the same times as you.. but good luck!
