Default 03-04 Cobra Reliability

Hi all. I am looking to purchase a 03/04 low mileage Cobra. I have a few questions and was hoping all of you would be able to help me out.

1) Is there anything in particular that I need to look out for when looking for a Cobra?

2) Are these car reliable?

3) I know A LOT of these cars have been modded. Any reasons to shy away from a modded Cobra?

4) What do you believe it a fair asking price for a low mileage (say under 25,000 miles give or take a few) Cobra? I understand these were limited production, but a lot of people seem to be asking too much IMHO.

5) Any thoughts on the Termi's vs. the GT500's?

6) What do you pay for insurance for your Cobra?

7) Anything else I should know?

Thanks Everyone,

Jim

Alot of cobra's have been modded, its nice to find a pure stock cobra. The reason people shy away from modded ones is, most of the time they are driven very hard on the road or the track. Not saying the un-modded dont get driven hard... they are cobras, but chances are better they didnt get driven as hard as the modded. As far as reliable, i have only owned mine for around 6 months and i havent had to do a thing beside oil changes and basic upkeep. i bought my cobra with 40k miles bone stock for $17,000 from a dealer with 2 year extended warranty, so obviously a lower mileage car will up the price a bit, though i wouldnt pay over 25,000. I pa about $135 dollars a month for insurance, but mine is a red convertable, and im only 23.

Thats all just my opinion on the matter, hopefully it will blend with others to help out.

The biggest known problem is the infamous head tick which mainly occured on the 03 cobras. The cars are pretty solid in general and the engines are a beast. Here is some good info...

The 03 and 04's have the bugs worked out on them, previous years such as 99, 01 had small issues. Iv had my 2003 since march and it is fully modded with 705 at the wheels. My advice if the car is modded make sure you check the shop out who did the work. I did alot of research on the shop and called them to verify everything and what they thought of the car. The car only has 4,400 original miles on it though. Price depends on color, mileage and what all is done to it. I paid way over book for mine but also have 30k just in receipts. On svtperformance.com a 25,000 mile Cobra is roughly going for between 22,500 and 24,000 very slightly modded. Get what you want, Thats all that matters. Are you looking for any certain colors?

That's for the info everyone. I'm not looking for a particular color per say, however, I do have white with black stripes 05 Mustang GT, so I'm thinking a different color would be nice.

I think the Cobra's look good in any color! I'll post pics when I get one!

Default Found a Cobra...advice please!!!

Hey guys and gals. I am back and have found a 2004 Cobra I am in the process of buying. Before signing the dotted line, I wanted to get your opinions on the car. As stated is is a 2004 Cobra coupe, screaming Yellow, with 20K miles. The dealers asking price was $25,000 and they came down to $23,500. I wanted them to come down to at least $22,500, but they wouldn't budge.

The dealer called the previous owner while I was there and I was able to ask a few questions of him. This is what he told me about the car...It has a short throw shifter, a Bassani exhaust, 2.76 inch pulley, intake, custom tune, spec 3 plus clutch, and islowered with Bilstein shocks.

The custom tune was done by by HPP out of Dallas TX. The car is making 483 RWHP and 503 RWTQ. Supposedly or at least the previous owner says, he has never took the car to the track.

I put a down payment on the car today, however, the car is contingent upon an inspection and testing by a local shop here in Houston. I will be taking it to Fastlane and having them look over the body, and perform a leak down test to confirm that all 8 cylinder are firing strongly. I went I started the car and listened to it run, there was no head tick noise!!!

The only thing I'm not crazy about it how low the car sits. It doesn't take much of a bump for it to scrape. It does come with the original springs, so I can raise it back up if it becomes a pain. Also the previous owner has the tuner he is willing to sell me. He wants $200 for it, but unless it has the tunes on it, I can get a new one for not too much more.

What are your thoughts. Is this a good deal, or should I not go through with it?

looks good, i bet you could offer the guy 100 bucks for the tuner and hed take it. Depending on what you like/drive in i would definitly put the stock springs back on or youll be rubbing that exhaust off. looks good from the pictures but the mechanic will be the deal breaker! Hope it all works out for you, you wont regret buying it if it is indeed in good working condition!
