Default 97 Cobra

Hey all,
New here and wanted to introduce myself. Back in 2006 I bought a very clean 97 Cobra with less than 50k on the ticker. I was in the military at the time and really enjoyed driving the car. However, the little 4v was no match to the ls2 GTO's or Terminator year cobras. I was considering doing a KB sc to satisfy my ego when one day I took a trip to the old Pontiac dealer. Long story short, I ended up leaving the dealership with the last GTO on the lot, which had been sitting unwanted, brand new in the front of the dealers lot for close to 2 years. I always did like them, although I understand others opinions on the bland body.
Soon thereafter I sold the Cobra to an older gentlemann who really seemed to appreciate the car. It had been 3 years since the exchange when I came across the car I once loved, and fell in love all over again. It's not everyday a 13 year old car is as flawless as the day it left the factory. I ended up making the guy an offer and bought the car for a second time. I forgot how fun it was to drive.
Since the acquisition, I have been snooping around this forum looking for good ideas. Seems like a cool place to learn.
Cheers,
Jason

Welcome Jason. Sell the Goat and put some of that money towards a built engine, and some turbos, lol...

Thanks for the welcome. I have lots of plans for the car at the moment. I am going to start with suspension and gears. Once it handles better, I will start throwing more power at it.

dont go to insane with the gears if you have plans to put some forced induction on...i had 4.10s on my last cobra they were cool but got annoying and i have 3.73 on this one now and there so much more manageable for forced induction!!

That depends a lot on what kind of supercharger he gets. If it's a centrifugal, then 4.10's all the way...

3.90's always a nice option as well!

Very good to know! I actually was thinking 4.10s. The GTO has a short 1st gear and it is a chore driving in stop and go traffic situations. I'll take the advice when the time comes and go 373's. Out of curiosity, what setup are you running?

I have been going back and forth on a Kenne Bell or Procharger. If money was no option, I'd go KB. As I understand it, the B heads on the 97 make their power over 5,000 rpm, so the centri and 4.10's is what made sense to me. However, I have always wanted a KB.

Anyone experienced both? Pro's and cons?

i have a 2.3l whipple with just about everything else you can think of lol....mfj is right it does depend on the supercharger too twin screws make power instantly and makes 4.10s not practical with most set up where as centrifugal builds boost so you dont get everything all at once...for my personal opinion if i had a centrifugal i still wouldnt do 4.10 or even if i had a n/a car i prolly wouldnt cause most of my driving is stop and go in the city and it just makes it really annoying to me some ppl love it i just rather not shift that much lol
