Default Throw Out Bearing

I had a bad throw out bearing that was chirping. It finally failed and I had it replaced at a shop. A few days later it started chirping and occasionally will make a strange rattling noise.

Do you guys think the bearing was replaced wrong or could it be a clutch cable adjustment?

I am bringing it back to the shop on Monday.

Do you know what condition the retainer sleeve was in? I had the infamous rattle and chirping, my TOB was toast and the retainer sleeve was in 2 pieces, it had broken off at the base where it is pressed into the trans cover.... What TOB did you replace yours with? I have read that people are replacing them up to 6 times! FRPP's TOB is supposed to be the best.... I also did the Lethal TOB retainer sleeve, everything seems to be spot on!

I don't know what condition the retainer sleeve is in but it suspected it could be that as well. I told them to check everything out when they replaced the TOB but it still happening.

I dropped the car of last night and had the mechanic listen to it. He thinks it is a bent prong but we'll see what they say after they look at it today.

I replaced the bearing with a local company's that the shop recommended. I suggested FRPP but they said these were just as good. The shop does specialize in Mustangs so I hope it is.

Thanks for the input!

So the shop said that one of the prongs on the pressure plate is bent so I just need to wait until the TOB fails again. Which shouldn't be long because it is worse than before it failed last time.

I am little upset that they didn't notice this when they replaced the TOB...

Oh well... guess it's due for an upgrade.

if you asked him to look over everything and he knew it was making that noise before he was reaplacing stuff then its pretty much his fault for not saying anything to you. You seem a bit too calm about waisting money on something that they should have caught in the first place especially when you asked them to look it all over. I bet if you confronted him or the manager about it they would work a free or half labor deal on replacing the broken parts. I had the same thing happen on a bad clutch install and after a few nasty words and complaints to the manager they re-did the work CORRECTLY for free. word of mouth is alot of peoples best advertisement, and most would rather fix the problem than have potential customers scared off.

I'm not really that calm about it and no I do not like wasting money.

When I bought the car I heard the noise and brought it to a ford dealership. They told me I had to replace everything, which at that time I strongly believe it was just the bearing. I declined them to proceed with the replacement because they tried to screw me and charge way too much. I confronted the manager and he admitted to trying to up sell me but wouldn't do anything about it.

So I had the bearing replaced at this shop. Yes I did tell them to take a look. They did the replacement and installed a short shifter for under $400.00.

After the replacement it seemed alright and then I had my dad drive it because he is a huge car nut. After that the noise became noticeable again.

I am an honest guy so I can't blame the shop if it could have been user fault. Do I think the prong was bent before, yes but I think it became much worse since they did the work.
