Default 97 Odometer Problem

Recently the odometer has stopped working, but the speedometer is still fully functioning. Anyone have any solutions to the problem or what might have caused this. The car is practically new as is with only 36k miles.

Suggestions would be appreciated. thanks

the Speedometer on my 1996 has issues
the Temp,Gas,Oil and battery gauges all work fine

but as far as the odometer , trip mileage along with the speed and RPM gauges does not move at all...Is it better to just replace the entire thing?

I had the same thing with my 97 cobra - it was the speedo gears on the instrument panel. Forgot where I got them, they were about 35.00 and very easy to install. The plastic gears just disintegrate over time, no matter how many miles are on the car. Easy fix - instructions come with the kit.

It is very easy to find replacement gears for these cars on eBay or Late Model Restoration. Take is slow removing the mounting nuts because that plastic gets brittle.

On the upside, you can change your mileage to whatever you want. You can be the only guy on your block to be running a 97 cobra with 645,217 miles on it.

Thanks - Late Model restoration is where I got the kit from. Once again, very easy to install. The old gears will likely disintegrate as you pull them out, just be sure to get all the pieces and you're good.

I have an 96 cobra with the speedometer continuing to go up and down it will not maintain a consistant speed does that mean that the teeth are gone and need replacement ,if so where can you but a new needle. thanks tony
