2003 Cobra making noise!
Hey everone! I just picked up a 03 Cobra and it is making a really loud ticking noise. The car has 10k miles on it and has a chip so Ford won't touch it. Two people have told me so far that they think it sounds like a lifter is making all the noise on the back drivers side of the engine.
Can anyone tell me what I might be getting into? Whats a worst case on this engine?

If you bought it from Ford with the Chip all ready on it. Them they better take it. BUt Modular motors are know for the rocker arms comionf off at high RPMs. So the first thing you might wanna do is take the valve covers off and see if everything is in tacked. Because if a rocker arm is off, you might have a valve. Just flapping around in the head. And thats not a good thing at all. Pm me tell how you make out.

sup all

Take the chip out and return to a different dealer. Warrenty is covered by all ford dealers no matter who they are. Thats weird though just because that engine is different then the other cobras. They have forged everything and is not a good sign that i it has a ticking noise at only 10k on it. but anyways i would take the chip out and go to a different ford dealer.

good luck

You can't just take it out. The harness has a seal on it. Once that seal is broke they know it's been messed with.

Term,

I bought an 03 Cobra (Black Convertible) last September from Board Ford (Whittier, CA) the price was right but the customer service after I drove it off was horrible (isn't that always the case?). Let me give you the straight storybecause I had the same thing happen to me (might be different but I doubt it).Initially the ticking sound was real low but would always keep pace with the engine RPM. Somedays it would tick and others it wouldn't. BTW-I baby this car since the day I bought it, don't race it, etc.I didn't think it was nothing to worry about but the months passed and the ticking sound got louder and louder. I finally brought it into the dealership (South Bay Ford off the 405, customer service is awesome -- I love those guys, really cool and no BS.) They tell me they think it is a spacer on the cam but they are not sure, they need to call the guys at SVT to make sure. A few days pass, they call me and nope it's not the cam but they are gonna keep checking. About a week and half passes and they tell me per SVT HQ (might be the drive train?) pull the engine and transmission because they couldn't identify the source of the ticking and they wanted SVT engineers to have everything is front of them. I couldn't believe what I was hearing! This car was only 4 months old and it's having the engine/transmission replaced? The cost of parts and labor only $17,649.02 courtesy of Mr. Ford himself. Since then no ticking and it runs like a top. Absolutely no MODS on this car, straight stock and will stay that way, can you say extended warranty.

My question is when I sell or try to trade in will this work come up on a check of the VIN?
