Default RE: suspension question

You can get away with throwing some moderate lowering springs on your car without making any other changes. By moderate, I mean one inch or less. I am not sure you will get much out of it though. If you really want to get the stang to look less like a 4 wheel drive and more like the sports car it is, and get the performance increase that can be attained from the mod... Keep a few things in mind- better handling comes at the cost of ride quality. You need to really think the project through. I can tell you what I have done to my pacific green 97 cobra and my black 97 cobra, and you can take it from there. The green one has eibach pro-kit springs, tokico 5-way adjustable shocks and struts, steeda subframe connectors, steeda bump steer kit, caster and camber plates (don't remember the brand), and steeda upper and lower control arms. The black one is in the process of having the suspention modification properly finished on it, as it had eibach sportline lowering springs (lowers two inches) on it with all of the rest remaining stock. I will be putting tokico shocks and struts (specifically for a car with lowering springs) on it as well as caster and camber adjustment plates. The green stang handles like a dream but the car can shake your fillings loose when the shocks/struts are tightened up. Because the shocks/struts are adjustable, you do have some options. The car doesn't have any real issues at that hight... but, the black one on the other hand... I have to say for the car having had 130K miles on the origonal suspention, it handled pretty good (better then it would have if the stock springs were on there), but I had gone over a couple of smaller speed bumps it a painful way. the bottom of the car has hit the pavement. Proper alignment can be an issue when you lower the car because you are changing the geometry of the vehicle. Ford had it in mind that the car would sit a certain hight and set all of the other angles accordingly. That is another reason why I am redoing that car (not to mention the 130k miles on the suspention). Make the car the way you want it, just think it through first. I hope more folks post on to this as experience is the best teacher (it can be a costly teacher too). Let us know how it works out for you.

Good luck!!!
