I am a proud owner of a 2003 GT VERT. My major mods are 3.73's 100shot N2o,a bama sct tuner w/ dino tune. X pipe and cat back exh, (no headders)rear UCA's and LCA's. yes i have most of the minor mods too ie: CAI, TB, UD pullies too. I can honestly tell u guys i that ive raced the new 2011 camaro ss and loose a car length off the line, but get it back by 60mph and slowly walk them past 80mph. on the highway same result i loose a bumper from a 50 mph pull then slowly walk them. I have never raced an older camaro ss so i cant campare my car to it. but i just barley beat the new ones.

AM I IN OVER MY HEAD, OR DO I HAVE A CHANCE HERE?

had to edit to let u all know my car is NOT tuned on the n2o yet ...
I don't see that you said if your car is a manual or automatic. If it's a manual and you can launch hard & hook, I think you could take him. It all depends on your tires and suspension. I've done what you're trying to do with UPR control arms and Mickey Thompson drag radials.

Or he could be full of crap. He might not have aftermarket heads...maybe he got it from a guy who blew the gaskets and merely had the heads resurfaced. Maybe he simply thinks the heads are aftermarket. Maybe he hasn't really chased down a new SS. He might not know what he's talking about...either that or he's flat out lying. Or maybe he knows what he's talking about and he's honest. The only way to find out is to race him and see what happens. I met kids around my way who claimed to have 11 second cars...they forgot to add the other 5 seconds to their times. I'd say get at him and see what happens.

@ Jazzer The Cat...First off I'm not trying to start any controversy or anything. IMO tho street racing (when done legally and safely) is a necessary element to our culture. I'm not saying to flog your car to redline at 2 pm, however there are many different ways to safely (relatively) street race.

For instance, say some punk in a Civic pulls up to you blasting beats and trying to show out. Well I'd say that most enthusiasts would at least spank said punk up until the speed limit or even before the speed limit is reached. No law is broken, nobody gets hurt, but you still were street racing (technically). No harm done as far as I'm concerned. Now again I'm not saying to stage at a red light as long as you don't exceed the speed limit. No you shouldn't power brake to launch at 4,000. No you shouldn't push the pedal to the floor. No you shouldn't chirp 2nd and 3rd gears. But there is nothing wrong with enjoying your car and having fun if you're obeying the rules of the road. Of course the more prudent course of action would be to ignore the kid and go about your business.

Whatever the OP has in mind or decides to do is between him and the other driver. I'm not endorsing or encouraging anything illegal here but I will say he should be careful wherever this race takes place.

LoL.. streets are where the races happen son, not for walking in.. if people would just gtfo of the way then it wouldn't be a problem.

street racer for life yo.

OP, as everyone else already stated, if he really has aftermarket heads/cam then you gonna get raped. if he was lieing or doesn't know whats really done to it(not aftermarket heads/cam) then you might stand a chance.

oh hey, jazzer the cat, they make these things called brakes, and if you have eyeballs you can see when you need to use these "brakes" so you dont run into things after accelerating rapidly. They come in handy when you street race. see what you do is, it's a completely open road, nobody else around, you push on your gas pedal and your car goes vroom and then you touch your brake pedal and you slow down, and thats why 99.99% of street races nobody gets hurt.

I'm more worried about the people talking or texting while driving, or even eating... much more likely to be hit by a distracted driver than 2 people focused on the road accelerating quickly. unless they are complete idiots about it.. ive seen morons trying to street race in heavy track before....

It's a slippery slope when you start getting self rightous about street racing. I'm sure the same people crying about racing have doubled the speed limit more than once in their lives in their own cars.
