Difference between 5.0L & 5.8L design
Difference between 5.0L & 5.8L design?
For those of you that really understand engine design, which is the better design (obvious cubic inch advantage aside) the 5.0L Coyote or the 5.8L engine in the GT 500 Shelby? Please explain your preference.
Thanx in advance for the education.

I know the 5.0 has both a higher compression ratio and benefits from variable valve timing and will likely go direct injection in the future.
the 5.8 while still a monster, would be overshadowed by a well built and boosted 5.0.
im like in that I don't fully understand the intricacies of motor design, but have been learning about a lot of the new designs.

As far as efficiency the 5.0 is a better motor, the TiVCT allows tremendous tuning advantages. The higher CR 11:1 vs 8.7:1 (IIRC) allows more N/A power to be made.
The Coyote heads do flow a bit, 4%, more air then the Trinity as well.
However under boost the Coyote block cannot take the pressures and pushes out the cyl wall. The Trinity motor (5.8) doesn't suffer from that issue.
Stock for stock w/ = mods the Coyote has the capability to make more power, however the Trinity will handle the power that the Coyote will not. So far Ford has not produced a block for the Coyote that will handle big power.

What I think I'm hearing from you guys is the Coyote is the better engine design, but if you are pushing for max. H.P. (which I am not) the 5.8L is a stronger engine.
My question was to find out if the 5.8L has gotten all the improvements of the 5.0L Coyote and you answered that.
Thanx,
