Default H/C/I LS1 Camaro vs stock LS3 Camaro

I know this engine has been around for a while (LS1) but I am still a huge fan. I can remember when the Mustangs stood a chance when Chevy introduced the LT1 in the camaro but when they stuck the LS1 in the camaro, game over. Just wondering if a HCI LS1 camaro would stand a chance against a newer model LS3 camaro (stock). What do you guys thinks?

H/C/I ls1 should handle a stock LS3 easily.

I had a VERY mild H/C LS1 (LS2 heads and a 213/231 cam) with just a 2800 stall and it ran 11.6s at 118 mph. An LS3 SS isn't coming close to that without equal mods.

The LS3 does. Time marches on and so does technology.

Yea the LS3 is a badazz motor. It won't just make a lot more power than LS1/2/6, but it will hold it too. Greddy talks like 700rwhp is no problemo on the stock LS3 bottom end.

H/C/I LS1 cars are no joke, that being said the new cars seems to be responding quite well also.

i've seen vids of lid/tune ls1 cars beating stock ls3 5th gens. 5th gens are just too big and bulky. the engine is great just kind of a waste in such a big car.

Like stone mentioned ~700whp is no problem for a stock bottom end ls3. an ls1 you're limited to the 550-600whp range which is still a lot tho.

Coming from a HCI LS1 (running a LQ9 now) I can tell you there would be no contest whatsoever. If you ran a similar HCI on both the F-body LS1 and 5th gen LS3 Camaro it would still be damn close. Figure it like this...a LS3 makes about 50-70 hp over the LS1, but the 5th gen Camaro weighs about 500-600 lbs more as well...equaling pretty much a drivers race when stock to stock or mod for mod
