Default Ford tuner? anyone?

Is it worth getting the Ford cold air intake package with the Ford tuner? Is it as flexible as a Diablo or SCT? I like the fact that it's FORD but if I can't add tunes later for future mods I think Diablo Sport or an SCT would be the better buy. I'm very new to the Mustang world. Just trying to figure out were my money is best spent. My ride is a 2008 GT 5-speed. My only "mod" so far is just a drop-in K&N filter. thanks for the insight guys.

The ford tuner sucks. I have no experience with the diablo but I have an Sct and it is awesome. American muscle has the tuner/gears combo and if I had to start over again that would be my first mod. And if you pull off the snorkel on airbox you already have a free cai and with your drop in filter you are already good to go. My car does high 12s with nitrous and a drop in. Just my 2cents

I've used both Diablo and SCT before. For a beginner (no mods) and not knowing where or what you'll be adding. Its worth an investment in buying a tuner which can burn custom tunes into it.

*You should buy a tuner which will be compatable with what local dyno shops use in case you ever what to dyno tune it. Otherwise if you aren't that serious or care i'd looking into purchasing a handheld which can give you free tunes for life.

expecting much gains from tuning with all else being stock will have you very disappointed, the largest gains are usually found adjusting the transmission settings

if you want a fast modular, throw a turbo on it

I'd argue there are some very impressive gains to be had tuning a stock car, especially the Torque Modulation heavy 05+ cars, not to mention the massive gains we are seeing on the 2011 5.0 models.

American muscle tested the stock tune, Ford racing tune and their tune on a 2011 mustang gt. All runs were taken the same day back to back. All test conditions were equal and these were the results:
Stock: 352.59 RWHP / 312.49 RWTQ - SAE Corrected
FRPP tune: 347.83 RWHP / 318.17 RWTQ - SAE Corrected
Bama tune: 367.85 RWHP / 362.95 RWTQ - SAE Corrected

I'm also new to the "Modern" Mustang game and looking for some advice as to where to spend a few performance bucks. I've owned 3, 1969-1970 'Stangs, now I have a 2008 GT w\4.6 V8 and 5-speed manual trans. All stock except for a K & N drop-in filter.
I've been thinking a chip or programmer and exhaust, maybe even just some less restrictive muffler with a hair more sound.
Am I better off spending my money on a NOS setup or a super charger or ? I'd like to get at 30 - 50 more hp out of her, of course more is always better, I just don't want to spend to many $ per HP.

Thanks for any advice you're willing to share

An intake and a tune from a reputable company will give you 20-30 RWHP depending on the octane level. A few of the companies that will email you tunes are American Muscle, Brenspeed, VMP, JPC performance, brookssped and the diabloshop just to name a few. An intake and tune will cost about $650. The stock exhaust is no that restrictive but you can get more out it if you go with L/T headers. L/T will give you about 20-25 RWHP. Cams are another popular choice for a few extra ponies.
