Default Turbo?

Mr. 4.0L, the biggest bang for your buck would be a 75 HP hit of nitrous. Why, because no changes, to the engine tune, are needed for anything under 75 hp hit of juice. Oh, by the way, be sure to wear a helmet and flak vest if this would be your first time with Nitrous.

No one makes a kit for the 4.0 now. So you will need to fabricate it on your own. The ebay "kits" are just a pile of parts, incomplete, leaving you to figure out how to fabricate the rest of the set up.

If you go to the Facebook page for Mustang Collective there are a couple of guys there running turbo set ups on the 4.0. I don't think that any of them participate here.

And with the 75 shot of nitrous - LOTS of fun. But you do need to change up the tune for it. You also have to be very sure you don't start to spray too early in the RPM range. Anything less than about 2,300 RPM and you risk putting a window in the block.

I was thinking about doing the ebay kit (causes I'm in trade school half the day) and they teach us to do tig and all types of welding hell there's a full machine shop and full auto shop with the top of the line ****. But other thought 75 shot with turbo 😂

You should be able to fab things up. Then you just need to determine the proper injector size and tuning.

As far as dual power adders - you will be picking up lots of pieces if you try that with the 4.0. Many have tried, even with built engines, only to scatter them in pieces after a couple of passes. The 4.0 will not tolerate the two together.

Well, as one tuner said to me, "it will run............................................... ......for awhile"

It would be quick for the couple of passes you get out of it.

Default Turbo ?

S1974.0, just for conversations sake, I am reminded of back in the mid 80s when we were experimenting with nitrous on small and big block Chevys. later on when turbos fell into fashion we experimented with a 75hp hit of juice to compensate for the turbos spool up lag time. What we did was to use a igniter system mounted on the steering wheel, red button, so the driver had complete control over the nitrous shot. He disengaged the nitrous just before the turbo was at full spool. Now, the local warriors have technology to do the thinking. I agree that a 4.0 is not the engine to mess with any type of aspiration. Here is a advertisement to show how far technology has come. Oh, by the way, I am contemplation on putting this system on our 1987 Fast Back stang with a Dart 363 stroker, with 88mm turbo, developing 1,110 RWHP.

◄ Turbo Nitrous System #82218

The ZEX™ Turbo Nitrous System is specifically designed to help spool-up engines equipped with big turbos. This kit has all of the same great features as our standard EFI wet nitrous systems but includes the addition of a fully adjustable boost switch. This innovative switch allows you to spray a small shot of nitrous to help spool-up the turbo. Then, as soon as a certain level of turbo boost is reached, the nitrous automatically shuts off.

Adjustable from 25-to-75 HP w/ supplied tuning jets

Eliminates large turbo boost lag for instant horsepower

Adjustable boost switch shuts off nitrous once turbo has spooled-up

Single-nozzle, wet nitrous system; Includes everything for a safe, proper installation

All major components are factory pre-assembled inside the Nitrous Management Unit

Detailed instructions provide for an easy, single afternoon installation
