Catback
I want my car have some rumble like the 5.0's and ****, its a 3.8L v6, my friend said i can take the cat off and put straight pipes and thatll do it but taking the cat off in my state is illegal... my other friend said i can gut out the cat and itll be louder... what should i do....
well catback is a term for an exhaust system starting after the cats. it has nothing to do with the cats, unless you replace the cats along with the exhaust. if you have the money, id get an O/R H pipe along with a true dual exhaust, and then when it comes time for emissions, just slap the old h pipe on, or one that is designed to fit your car in its modified state. the 6er guys will know a lot more aboot it than i will though.

i bet you could find a gt engine and install it yourself for cheaper thant it would be to try and make a 6er sound like a v8

I think you'll not like the tone from straight pipes and no mufflers. It'd probably be really loud, raspy, and ricey. So from what I've heard, Bassani, Magnaflow, and Borla are quiet at idle but get louder and more aggressive as the RPM's increase. Flowmasters and flowmaster knock offs and other chambered mufflers are louder at idle and sound good till about 3000rpm's and then they thin out and loose their rumble. Spintech's seem to be the best of both worlds. Or atleast from what people have said and what I've listened to. I haven't heard in person or tried any of these yet..... but that's what you're looking at. And most importantly, you won't make it sound like a GT. However, you could still make it sound pretty bad ***, for a 6 anyway.
