Default Headers...Long or short?

What is the major differecne between long and short tube headers...i know that long tube headers make more power, but is there an advantage of having short ones or vice versa?

Having shorties here in Cali won't fail in a smog test. Long tubes will.

but the shorties don't give any real gain over stockers so Cali 3.8 guy's are screwed for getting power from headers

I know it's alot of work and would cost some cash for parts, but has anyone tried to go longtubes + cats? Rewiring the 02 sensors would be a neccesity and posibly a tune......but you should be able to pass smog then???? unless there is something else I am missing besides my mind.

Just a thought, it's a pretty good power gain...

Nope. The headers MUST carry a C.A.R.B certification. Long tubes for the V6 do not. No matter what you do, they will still be illegal in Cali.
