Default intermittent problom

On my 91 mustang 2.3, the tach jumps all over the place, engine idles rough, has poor acceleration, high vibration, code 998 - opperating in failure mode comes up. the plugs and wires have less than 500 miles on them. i did a search of the internet and found that someone had the same symptoms with 91 dual plug 2.3 mustang, and they changed the coils, it stoped, but then they brought it in and the shop said it was the ignition module. ive priced out these parts and it would cost me about $300 to fix myself it those were the problom. need help.

it says in your sig that you have a turbocoupe as a parts car, why dont you just swap out the parts you need from the tc?
