headers
Headers are a good investment. BBK and MAC are the only two that I know of that make them for the Ford V6, depending on year. Long tubes are great if you are puming a ton of air, as long as you can get the cats in and make it pass smog, if it's a daily driver. BBK 1-5/8" equal length shorty headers are the hot ticket in my opinion.
JBA makes some very good headers for the V6 too. They're supposed to be one of the best out there. And you're gonna wanna stay away from MAC's headers, they tend to have a lot of problems. http://www.v6mustangstuff.com/Headers.htm

But you're right, if on a budget as it seems here, there are better ways he can spend his money.
I hate to say it, but i completely agree with you.
The reason i say mention the headers flowing well is, many people will want to put a 250 dollar set of headers on a stock 3.8L, and get mad when they dont do squat. On a relatively stock 3.8L, they arnt a restriction, the y-pipe and catback is the biggest restriction. When you get into headwork and/or a cam, then the headers can be beneficial, but there are many more things to spend 250 bucks on that will get you more benefit than headers.
