smoke?
the other day i was passing someone and as i looked back, it looked like a big puff of smoke had come out of the tail pipe right as i hit wot. on of my friends told me he saw this happen a long time ago on my car. i didnt see it so i didnt know what he was talkin about and didnt care. anyone know why every once in a whie it does this?
I work on disel trucks and when theres black smoke coming out the exhuast its usually a miss firing piston or a dead one...in your case, im not too sure, but maybe your losing a piston at certain times while accelerating...if you can, try to get a program tuner pluged into your car, you might get some trouble codes back that show you what the problem is for sure...you dont need an aftermarket tuner...all good shops should have some kind of programer that checks for codes, should cost less than 100.
yea it happens very rarely when i accelerate hard. its dark grey almost black smoke. and it only happens once...just one shot of smoke. and it seems to still have plenty of power. and ill see if i can check the computer to see if i get anything.
ps. i took off the chrome the other day to wash, clay, glaze, and wax it and i actually want to keep it on. ive had many doubts about it before. if i ever did anything else to the exterior i would probably want to take it off because it would be just too much.

Black smoke means that your running rich; check your engine oil for fuel contamination (take your dip stick out examine and smell for gasoline) if the oil dosent have gas in it then I would guess a sensor or a leaky injector. Now if it is a dark grey or blueish color then you are burning oil but I doubt that would happen to a newer car like yours, so it probably is just running a little rich.
so i took my car to autozone to have a diagnostic done and there were no trouble codes. i told them about what happened and someone there said my pcv valve was probably sticking. i dont think he was right because i replaced that less than a year ago but i got a new one anyway..it was less than 2 bucks...now i get to wait and see if it ever happens again.
