The Essex V6 (you know, the 3.8 that sits between your stangs fenders) was derived from the Ford Windsor V8. I don't know where people get their info but I keep seeing posts here and there saying it was derived from the Buick turbocharged 6s. Everything I've ever read says it's not. Correct me if I'm wrong and give me the source where you get your info but it bothers me when people give out incorrect information even if it is something trivial like this.

It was derived from the Buick V6. That engine was out long before Ford came up with thiers. It may be a loose comparison, but it is still basically the same engine.

Where do you get that info from? I've heard it a million times on these forums but I've not seen anyone offer up anything substantial. It strikes as me as hard to believe that Ford would design an engine after a GM V6 that was derived from Buick's V8 as opposed to chopping two cylinders off the succesful Windsor. It won't let me post the link but check out www.answers.com and search for Ford V6, and then Buick V6, no mention of each other.
