Default Exhaust newbie here, need help

Alright, I have a 2001 Mustang V6. I lost the catalectic converters in it, and cannot come up with $1500 to replace them. So I had my exhaust guy simply gut them out. Well that worked on our Jeeps, and on my S-10, however on the Mustang it is not working. It sounds like crap, and is eating fuel like you would not believe. We are not sure what the exact problem is. I know that it has an 02 sensor that reads the exhaust and will change the a/f ration, but that is supposed to trip the Engine idiot light. That is not on. Does anyone know if that could be the problem with out hitting the idiot light, or is it maybe too much back pressure that can be fixed by running straight pipe??? Help, I want to drive my car again.....

If your check engine light is on you need MIL eliminators...but if all you have on are the headers...then you cant do anything. MIL eliminators tricks the CPU into thinkin the cats are there so your fuel consumption will be like normal. But be careful, i got pulled over twice for not having my mufflers off.

It will usually turn on after you run it for a while. But you need to buy yourself a pairof MIL eliminators. Got mine from Steeda for $65 and was well worth it because they plug right in. W/O the MIL eliminators, your engine will be running too lean or rich.

I say just bring it to a shop, get them to fab you a set of off road x pipes, buy a set of GT flowmaster 40 or 50 cats, and get your mil eliminators, the whole thing will cost less than $400, you'll not only fix the problem, but you'll look and sound good too.

Did you use the MIL Elims on a V6 and work? I heard they only work on the V8

Thanks for the insight. I saw a place that had them for around $35. Then I also found an X pipe with Cats, and Mufflers for $300. I could get the whole thing running really well with that. If I put the MIL Elims on there, and increase the exhaust flow with the aftermarket pipes, do I need to get the EFI recalibrated? Or should it all be good?

If you have the cats on you DONT need MIL eliminators...they are just when you dont have the cats on.
My exhaust was $750 custom from headers - back. Went with custom xpipe, MAC mufflers and 3.5 rolled tips. Probably had the best guy in the US install them, he had customers come down from Georgia, mississippi, and kentucky just to do their exhaust.
