Default 2.3 internals

can the non svo 2.3 motors hold a garrett t3 and svo manifold in stock form?
were the pistons cast or forged?
this 2.3 on has 86K miles on it
i have all the hardware for the turbo swap
its just my daily driver and i dont wanna melt a piston or a connecting rod by swapping this turbo on. someone told be 10lbs is about all i need and not mess it up

umm by what i read on here, the svo turbo stangs run forged where as non-turbo stangs run cast. by what i read on here also, was that the cast pistonsand rods an only withstand 5lbs. as long as u keep the engine running cool u shouldn't have to worry bout meltin anything, just worry bout busting a rod or blowing a piston thru your oil pan.

actually I believe the rods are fine, it's the pistons that are prone to blowing holes in themselves with detonation. also the forged pistons reduce the compression ratio to reduce detonation even more

if you keep the boost to a max of around 5psi and watch for detonation conditions, you should be fine

And what exactly are detonation conditions?

well, running lean is the only one I can think of, don't know why I said that, but anyway...

running lean, u should be able to tell a difference of smell in your exhaust, your engine running hot. if your engine detonates, u should be able to tell by a noise and i believe loss of power. but running lean can be good if u don't run too lean. advancing/retarding timing can cause detonation too i believe.

yes, you can bolt the manifold right on. you have cast everything, and the only difference in turbo 2.3 and NA 2.3 is forged/cast pistons. crank and rods are the same. im running like 10 lbs on an na everything except turbo exhaust manifold and forged pistons...no probs whatsoever. i really reccomend getting forged lower compression pistons though because too much compression is another cause of detonation.
