Default clutch problems

okay today i was on a feeder street, seeing what my car has got. i.e. seeing how fast it can go. well i was shifting at about 5k rpms and when i went to put it in 4th gear i heard a little pop and then let off my clutch to keep going cept it didnt engage. the clutch pedal felt like it didnt go up as high as it usually does. so i turn onto a street to see whats wrong and i have to coast to a stop since pressing the gas wont make it move. well i stop it and i didnt smell the clutch burning so i turn the car on and try to drive it. it took alot of gas to make it move and then smoke started pouring out. the clutch was burning. so i turn it off real quick to try and save the clutch. have my friends dad drag it home and now its sitting there and i have no means of transportation. i havent been able to get under the car to see whats wrong yet because its night time. but does it sound like just the clutch cable came loose? because im screwed if its something else seeing as im broke.

You only wish you could get that lucky. It's time to pull the transmission.

It has to come out. If the cable were broke, you would have no clutch at all, but instead, the clutch is actually disengaged, meaning that the input shaft isn't turning. Smoke came from the clutch. It's burned and needs to be replaced. The new clutch will come with a pilot bearing and throwout bearing. That will be all you need to fix the car.
