im goin to tell u what i was told and what everyone else is goin to tell u. gears, t-lock/detroit posi lock, aluminum drive shaft, suspension upgrades.. all of that will help u get that power to the ground. now for actual power the key is breathing, the engine has to breath properly. ok if u have to have cats, get high flow, or else u can take them off. get a high flow air filter for that cai. headers for the exhaust. if ur goin to stay n/a then get a new throttle body and throttle body spacer. get under drive pulleys, a set of 3 is good. get a short shifter and a short throw kit in ur clutch. then when ur ready for the bigger bucks, get forged internals, pistons, cams, crank, rockers, lifters, push rods, u can shave and bore. get a new fuel pump with bigger fuel injectors. u can get a stroker kit, 4.2 for n/a and 4.3 for forced induction. if u go F/I then an eaton supercharger is really good for this year(98), and u can go turbo as well, but many people have told me that a twin turbo setup is more efficent. if u go super keep the single port injectors, dont go split port, ull jus have to change back. u can also get weight reduction, take out useless sh*t like the back seat and things like ur ac compressor, if u dont use it or can live without it. im sure ive missed some things, but thats a pretty good list. and ull get alot of help from the people here. good luck and keep us posted, with pics if possible.

There are no cheap mods, remember, you've got to pay to play, but about the only cheap mod you have left is underdrive pulleys. Here's a few more mods for you, but they're far from cheap.
1.) Gears and a t-lok, we have more than enough gear threads to feed you more information than you could ever need.
2.) Handheld tuner
3.) Upper and lower intake port and polish, along with a head port match and polish, cam swap, injector upgrade, throttle body upgrade. Or you could do a split port swap intake swap to make your intake like a 99-04 and do all of those other things along with it.

Or that to, I'm just not too big on nitrous which is why I generally fail to reccomend it.

don't know why. it's just as safe as any other major power adder at a fraction of the cost. just like anything else, if you install it properly, you won't have any problems.

i think adding nitrous is just begging you to go out and race and get a speeding ticket and/or get arrested.

you can say the same thing about a supercharger, but the fact that the supercharger is "always on" kinda dulls down the racing spark

i would think when people have nitrous, theyre driving around like "man i wanna race somebody so i can use my NOZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ"
