Default Engine hum

I've noticed a new noise on my brothers 03 V6 auto. While you'r giving it gas, just cruising, the engine creates this low hum noise. Its only when you give it gas, steady or slamming it gets the same hum results. The only thing I can relate it to is a low-end tone flying saucer, or a cruise boat horn that is constant (just not as loud[8D]). Anyone know what this is and how to fix it? It gets annoying.

Oh..btw, its got 59K miles and never has had a tune-up besides oil and filter. But the works is coming at 60K.

Nope, nothing like that. Has anyone rode in the back of a pickup truck? It kinda sounds like the extreme tire noise you hear while back there. I was thinking it was just tire noise but it only happens with the gas pedal down.

Default RE: Engine hum

its your idle air control valve.

when its jammed, it doesnt open and close properly, which creates that humming noise you hear. if you turn your car on and pop the hood you can easily test it. just go over to that little lever that you can push which revs your engine and give your engine one long rev. it should start humming.

if it does just clean that out with a spray from kragens or whatever is close to your house and let it sit for two minutes before you dispense the cleaner. then let it dry completely and put the control valve back on. should work fine after that. if that doesnt work buy a new valve for 50 bucks. good luck
