99+ V6 Performance
Hello all, I went to the Dyno yesterday and was hoping to get the numbers that were posted above, 160-170rwhp. Well, what I managed on a 99 mostly stock 3.8 was 138.2rwhp and around 175flb/tq. The only thing I have put on the motor is MSD plug wires and a K&N filter. I have just over 92,000 miles and I also have the manual 5 speed transmission. This seems to be a little short. They had a grand opening at a performence shop and offered 2 dyno runs for $20.00. I of course would have received the shark bite award with the lowest HP. Mostly ricers there and nothing under 300rwhp in the bunch, except the american cars, TransAms (297 rwhp) as an example. What do I need to check on this engine ? My daughters boyfriend ran it at 15.2 in the quarter last year, and it doesn't seem to be running any different. Also what would cause such a drop in HP, Rear end? Tranny? Thanks in advance for the help.

I guess you didn't see the rear wheel horsepower (rwhp) part on my numbers, the 190hp advertised by ford is at the flywheel. So what you get on a Dyno is RWHP which is usally a bit lower that flywheel horsepower.
Some of the people there were happy with the results and were right on wit other Dynos. My youngest daughters boyfriend has a TransAm and wasn't real happy with the other guys RWHP. I believe the other T/A had alot of power add ons and should have been over 300-320rwhp. Not sure if he has ever put it on a dyno before and had numbers to compare. So when they setup the dyno they can basically put to much force or tension on the rollers or something?? The web site for the dyno is www.ellisautoworkz.com, supposed to have the most accurate dyno around.

Those are really low numbers, kinda makes me wonder if they had the dyno set right.
