Default Is it possible to do Susp. yourself?

I want to lower my car. I have the Pro-kit already but no S/S yet. I'm thinking about just selling the springs because new S/S and labor and alignment are so fricken expensive. I just don't want to put that kind of money into this car. Is it possible to do the S/S and springs myself in the driveway using a jack and jackstands? Anyone have a step-by-step? I'm thinking me and my dad and cousing could do it and then I would pay for the alignment. Any suggestions? Also for full-length weld-in SF connectors...do you HAVE to take the interior carpet out? Or should it be okay?

you need spring compressors. but yeah it isn't that hard to do

as for the sub frame connectors. that's a damn good question that i never thought of. i would say it would be best to take up the carpet to weld

Im doing my suspension work by myself. Yeah, basicly the most important tool is the spring compressor. So far Ive only lowerd the rear end of my car since im waiting for my caster/camber plates to come in.

Yeah, but you probably dont have to buy them, just like pullers. But you might have to, i dont know, Im using a friends...They are probably not too expensive anyway. It makes it easier to take the springs out so Id go throught the trouble to use some though If you didnt, Id imagine you having to jack the car up really really high.

yea idk bout doing it myself though...i don't want to screw anything up...i just don't want to pay 150 to 250 to get my $200 springs installed...if it were a GT or Cobra I'd have no problem doing it the right way and just having a shop do it for me...i guess i'm just cheap like that

free rental from autozone, or a local shop. Just hook it on the springs, and turn it. springs compress. its very simple hardest parts the front, still very easy. you dont have any neighbors or friends??

lol neighbors....not really...but my cousin works at a shop that does WRXs and EVOs....the mechanic said he wasn't comfortable working on a car he's never worked on before....otherwise he was going to do it for free and they have two lifts so no dealing with jackstands....i think i might try to convince him to just try because i know the rear is hella easy to do but the front requires more work...but then it's just like every OTHER car that has a front strut set-up so we'll see

Spring compressors are an absolute MUST. Those springs are under a TON of weight, and if you try to take them off without using the spring compressor, it WILL fly all over the place, shatter, and cause serious damage, to people and items. It's do-able without the compressor, but you take a VERY SERIOUS RISK of injury. And yes, you can do the springs yourself.

one of my buddys has done springs tons of times and has never used a compressor, i askd him about this and he said nothing has even come close to happening like that. idk, it was his words. so im gunna let him do mine.
