Default Tranny Problems

Hello all. I just bought a 94 3.8 Mustang automatic (had to for the wife's sake), and I have a problem. The transmisson acts like it drops it's self into neutral when I am just cruising at around 40-55. It does this with the transmission in O/D and with O/D off. It will basically do a neutral drop if I leave my foot on the gas. But now the funny part is it will only do it when the car has warmed up. Any ideas???????????????

Thanks in advance

I know buying a new transmission will fix the problem, but right now that is not an option. Was wondering if someone with a bit of transmission know how could refer me to the possible cause of the slippage. I can fix it, but don't know that much about the tranny's. Have been inside of them a couple of times for rebuilds.

first look at the transmission fluid is it brown and smells like burnt ***?? if so have the fluid flushed and filled. like $60 at a local shop and if you take it to ford around where i live it's $130 and they flush it out pretty good. that may stop the slippage for awhile and give you some time to save up for a new tranny. that's just an idea, good luck

oh i see where you said you can fix the tranny well in that case you've probably already changed the fluid, if so nevermind and good luck

It's either old and bad tranny fluid, or you've got a bad pump or a broken gear peice or something inside the tranny. Take it to a local transmission shop and see what they say, they is deffinitly something that you're probably not gonna be able to fix.

Oh, also could be a bad sensor, when those go out, your car will do some pretty weird things.
