Default Engine Overheat

Hey. I have a '94 3.8 with a problem. It overheats constantly. I have tried flushing the rad and I have changed the thermostat but that hasn't helped. No visible sings of what it might be. However, as I start driving the temp gauge reads normal then shoots up fast to hot. If I turn on the heat inside the car when it is overheating, it will normally not blow out heat ( just cold air) and have no effect. If I leave the heat on for a while, eventually it will blow hot air for about 1 min. and the temp gauge will lower, then heat will stop and resume overheating. Anyone have any idea what would cause this?

It actually sounds like a head gasket issue. Those are pretty notorious for having problems.

headgasket.

get 1999+ 3.8 ford MLS (Multilayer Steel) gaskets and new head bolts. also have the heads checked for warpage and resurfaced/and a valvejob and you will be fine.

do not use head gaskets made for a 94 as they are garbage.

99 MLS gaskets are the only fix for your problem. you could also drop a 98 engine in from www.mpsautosalvage.com

yeah that sounds like the headgasket, i had an old daytona that did exactly the same thing and it was the head gasket. 94-96 were notorious for head gasket failure

It not the head gasket i have the same damn problem thats been going on for over 2 yrs, i have change the head gaskets 2 times the last time just last week, and use the 99 mls gaskets and mine still does it i have had the head cheaked for cracks changed the cpu, radiator, water pump, thermostat and flushed it. I alo have a huge power loss and the water vanishes i have to fill the thing everyday. Someone told me that the converter could be bad and it causes alot of backpressure and heat, still doesnt explain the missing water, plus when mine overheats, when it is ideling it sound like a desil engine.

PLEASE ANYBODY WHO CAN RESOLVE THIS, PLEASE LET ME KNOW, I AM DESPERATE!!!!!!!!!

Perfectly filled with oil. Only sound like that when over heated.

I also had the head pressre checked for leaks and valves done and there is no water in my oil i believe it only looses water when overheating so i need to figure out why it is overheating in the first place.

just cuz you've flushed the rad, don't neccessarily mean it's clean, it could still be clogged somewhere restricting proper flow of coolant.. I'd check for cold spots on the rad to see if the water is flowing through all the core. You can do this when the engine is warm, feeling around spots on the radiator..

as for the heating inside to kick in, it could be a cracked vacuum line not shifting the cool to heat properly.
