Default Problems with power locks-2000 V6

When I try to lock or unlock the doors the passenger door lock works fine but sometimes the driverside lock will not lock/unlock. This happens wether I use the wires key remote or the L/U button on the door. Whats causing this and how can I fix it?

I had the same problem with my 99, I assume its because you use the driver lock much more than the passenger side lock. The actuator in the driver side door has worn out and needs to be replaced. Its a bit of a pain to do and woring inside the door can be tricky. You can get the parts at the dealership or Here (the image is wrong, the 99-04 looks different, so I would even call/email and confirm its the right one)

IF you have any more questions, ask away!

So the actuator is worn? If I replace it, it will just happen again right? Sometimes it works and other times it just budges and dont unlock. So how did it wear and can I stop it from doing that again when I put in a new one.

It may not happen again for a really long time, maybe it will. There is nothing to fix really just the way that part is, however the newer one may be better built.

yea i have the same exact problem as you. i mean it works 1 out of 10 times, but i just think its easier to just use the key and save money cuz its a lotta wiring, money, etc. it happened to me like last september and im too lazy to go get it fixed. lol

Well the lock still works just not electronically. It serves its purpose ( to lock the door). Since the car always had this problem I never really got in the habit of using the remote or buttons on the door. I just lock/unlock it manually with the key or my hands. So I guess this is a case of "if it aint broke dont fix it." It still works manually and as long as it locks the door I want replace no time soon. Also if I replaced it Id probably never use the remote or door buttons since I got use to not using them. It'll be pointless. But now I know what the problem is and how to fix when I decide to. Thanks.

No wiring, its a little rectangular motor that is clipped in there, its just a bish to get out.

The door skin has to come off and the latch needs to be un mounted.

Ford always makes things difficult. They do things different. I noticed GM cars seem easier to work on. Ford crams so much and to one space and arrange everything tightly. Difficult arrangements. Im sure it has a purpose or else they wouldnt do it. GM cars seem simpler and more spaced out although some of their cars have difficult spots to.

Meh, I think no matter what car you working on, when it comes to working inside the doors...it pretty much sucks.
