Default My Final Gear Thread

Well since I am having some debate as to what I should do about my current gear situation I decided to make a final post to get the info I need. I will be ordering whatever parts I need to this week. So I want to know what I should do.

Before I get into it, here is abit of info. My current rear end is failing. And so while it is being oppened up for repair, I have decided to up my gears to 3.45. Since my funds are limited, and it seems that the general opinion is that I add a T-lok at the same time I'll go with the ford racing one.

Here is what I am looking at.

3.45 gears. I was informed that the 3.45 gears with a 23 tooth speedo gear will put my Speed right on normal, but if I go 3.73 then the speed will be off by 5-6mph. As I don't want that head ache, I will opt for the 3.45. If I am wrong in this assumption, please set me straight. (http://www.mpsautosalvage.com/products/list.cfm Ford, 7.5" , 3.45 ratio, includes ring gear, pinion & pinion nut. $50.00)

The Ford Racing Posi-Traction Lock I was looking at is more in my price range and since my insurance company won't allow any mods then this one can be hidden and so it should also handle the stock power of my 6er. Again, if I am wrong, please set me straight. (http://www.rpmoutlet.com/musv6fordgear.htm )

Then I will need the Bearing kit, and was wondering if I needed the MOTIVE GEAR DIFFERENTIAL BEARING KIT $69.95 or the MOTIVE GEAR MASTER DIFFERENTIAL BEARING KIT $89.95? (http://www.rpmoutlet.com/musv6fordgear.htm Under the T-lok)

And finally I need the speedo gear, so I was looking at this White 23 tooth one at http://www.steeda.com/store/-catalog/speedometer.htmBut there it displays that the 23 tooth is good for 3.55 gears AND 3.73, but I can't see how it would calibrate it perfectly for both. So I am completely baffleds and at a lose as to what to do about the speedo gear. I want the speedo to be perfectly on target.

SO any final help on this will be greatly appretiated. I need to do this repair soon, and I finally have the money saved up to do it. I can afford all that I listed, as long as I don't have another $500 in stuff I need.

Thank you in advance to all who will help.

Well if you get the speedo gear and 3.73s then you'll be set, no more money required. See http://www.mustangtuning.com/ and http://www.v6mustangstuff.com/ for parts at a damn good price.

incorrect. 3.73's are off by about 6mph with the 28 tooth gear. believe me that is what i have.

www.gefracing.com is a better place for the T-lok

do not go with RPMoutlet. their customer service has been poor for alot of people

the 23 tooth gear is for 3.55 ratio. 3.45 is close enough that you will not be more than 1 mph off. the reason steeda states that 23 toothe gear is for 3.55,3.73 and 4.10 is because nobody makes a gear for anything steeper than 3.55

here is a good install kit
http://www.drivetrainspecialists.com...ll-inst-1.html or the kit that i linked to on EBAY is fine too for less money

after the install byt a good tranny/gear shop you must follow a proper break-in procedure to ensure the new bearings seat properly without overheating them which will warp them and cause slop in the rear.

drive the car no faster than 60mph and make 30 minute drives and allow the rear to cool after the 30 minute drive. repeat this driving style for 400-500 miles and your bearings will be seated perfectly. from 500-1500 miles after the install you want to change the fluid in the rear

75W90 is the correct oil and you need a bottle of friction modifier to keep the clutch plates in the T-lok working properly
